About us

Photography courses and classes in Ashby de la Zouch, Leicestershire.

Let me tell you a little about our background, philosophy, skills and experience.

As a child I'd always had a darkroom in our  family home and after "A levels" enrolled on a two year photography course at Plymouth School of Art and Design. Plymouth was a combination of strict technique mixed with a creative edge and I'm still drawing inspiration from those happy times. Two further years of study followed at  Harrow School of Photography.

After four years I cautiously entered the world of work and joined the photography department  of The British Museum. Here I learnt the importance to getting things exactly right. I still remember making prints from 10x8 glass plates.

Moving on, I joined a graphic design studio in Harrow on the Hill which was just dabbling in 35mm slides for Audio Visual presentations. This was a a busy time of learning new techniques, working on tight budgets and making the most of basic equipment and recourses.

Looking back, it was that graphics lead job that opened the doors to a Nationwide Audio Visual company. I took the new job and had a photography assistant under me. I was involved with a sound engineer, a director,  writers and many different voice overs. The company made tape slide programs and film strip presentations for a whole range of industries. This was an exciting time when we always seemed to be working late, dashing from location to location and meeting deadlines.

Days were spent In and out of a whole range of industries shooting dynamic images telling the story of that particular client. Looking back at those days of film and processing it all seems very mechanical and hands on compared to today's digital world.

After 7 fast and fabulous years  the birth of video wiped out the Audio Visual business  over night and I was made redundant.

1985 marked a year of great change. Pauline my wife was expecting our first Child and we had just taken the bold step of "going freelance." Our home  in Beaconsfield Buckinghamshire was to become our place of work!

We called our fledgling company  "Trewimage" and it truth was the best thing to happen. After a small hick-up with the miners strike, the three day week and a recession we entered what some people call the golden era of photography.

I worked on many high profile annual reports, was overseas many times and always busy driving up and down the motorway network.  We moved house, built a photography studio and Pauline left her Health Visiting job to devote more time with the business. Hasselblad, film and high energy ruled.

I've shot on the New York Stock Exchange, spent many hours in helicopters over Milton Keynes, photographed in operating theatres, been on endless building sites, had the challenge of shooting weddings and portraits, and covered many studio product shoots. I've shot a few top names and also "the person next door". I love the challenge of making an image tell a story.

It was in 2006 that we launched a new venture, that of teaching photography. We called our a new business "Imagemasterclass" and it ran along side our corporate photography work. I'd always  given photography advice to friends and colleagues and with the advent of digital imaging it was an ideal time to develop that passion into a business.

Now, as our children were fast leaving home for Uni and work and our photography business had passed its 25th birthday it seemed a good time for...all change.

In 2010 we relocated to Ashby de la Zouch in Leicestershire. We stopped taking on commercial photography assignments and devoted all our time to our new passion "Imagemasterclass".

We're are both really enjoying this new adventure and love The National Forest.

After some building works in our new Ashby home we're now up to speed .

A a new set of Serious Fun Photography Classes, levels 1&2.

Our students come with a whole range of abilities and aspirations and helping them to find their vision and increase their photographic confidence is our desire. In the past several students have gone on to further photography training and a some are now running their own photography businesses.

! hope this gives you a flavour of  what we do and why we do it.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Jeremy and Pauline Trew
